Thank you for taking the time to read our first blog post! We’re starting this blog as a way to give readers like you a glimpse into Pennswood Village. We hope to highlight the unique experiences that a Quaker-directed continuing care retirement community can offer. We want to help clarify some of the questions you may have about what it means to be Quaker directed, or even what it means to be a continuing care retirement community.

We’ll feature our people—the residents, the staff, and the community members who really are the heart and soul of Pennswood Village. We are a place where people grow—intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually. We are a place of community.

We offer the opportunity for residents to grow because we take away the day-to-day tasks most homeowners worry about. Once you move in, you no longer have to worry about shoveling snow, or spending a day doing laundry or cleaning. You don’t have to hunt for contractors; our maintenance staff is ready to respond immediately to fix anything in your home. You don’t even have to cook if you don’t enjoy it.

When you move to Pennswood Village, you gain access to a variety of dining options on campus. You can use our community garden, or spend an afternoon playing croquet and bocce. You can swim laps in our 60-foot lap pool, or jump in our warm-water exercise pool. You can borrow from our library, view art in our galleries, and knock out a trip to the pharmacy, the bank, and the salon—all without having to drive anywhere.

In addition to caring for the social, spiritual, and intellectual aspects of a person, we provide excellent physical care for residents of Pennswood Village. Physical health is a cornerstone for overall wellbeing, and to support you in your efforts to maintain your current health or increase you health, Pennswood Village offers a variety of health care services. Our in-house physicians and nurse practitioners offer wellness check ups, health screenings, new and chronic illness management, and more. Better yet, our on-campus medical clinic has registered nurses available 24/7. If a resident needs a higher level of care, Pennswood Village provides those services right here on campus- no need to temporarily move off campus to receive the rehabilitation or 24-hour care you need.

Here on the Pennswood Village blog, you’ll get to meet residents who take advantage of everything Pennswood Village has to offer, as well as those who have taken advantage of the bountiful groups, events and excursions in surrounding Bucks County. You’ll read about our first-ever Peace Conference last week, where a group of residents got together, created a committee, and opened Pennswood Village to the community as a way to help build peace. You’ll meet the chairs of our trips committee. You’ll meet a resident who spends his days in the woodshop, creating art out of turned wood. You’ll have frequently asked questions answered and see articles about our amazing dining services staff.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Pennswood Village, I encourage you to explore our new website or contact us. We’d love to meet you.

All my best,

Ben Hoyle
