“Sense and Nonsense”
Exhibition of Paintings: 9/12/21 – 11/7/21
Exciting and vibrant! Once again we look forward to seeing and enjoying the work of artist William Hogan, a painter who had an exhibition here in 2016.
Masked residents and fully vaccinated visitors are invited to attend the opening celebration on Sept 12, 2021 with Hogan’s illustrated Artist’s Talk in Penn Hall at 2:00 PM and the wine and cheese Sidewalk Reception at 3:00 PM near the main entrance.
The public is invited to enjoy Hogan’s illustrated Artist’s Talk video (including an interview with William Hogan and a tour of his studio):
Hogan refers to the process of making his paintings and drawings as that of discovery, and that is what it is like for us to look at his colorful, complex pictures. Over the years, some titles he has used give a clue to the experience. . . “Where are we going, what are we doing,” “When I woke I kept Dreaming,” “Dog contemplating an object” and “There’s an elephant in my soup.” Hogan uses the term “Surrealism” to describe his work. However it is not the surrealism of Salvator Dali, but of someone expressing a more realistic, more upbeat view of the world.
Hogan attended the School for Visual Arts in New York City, graduating with a certificate in illustration. After two years in the Army where he made use of his illustrating ability, he next earned a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the American University in Mexico City. Back in the States, he worked as an editorial illustrator/cartoonist for The Record of Hackensack for 26 years. Hogan has participated in many exhibitions and received numerous awards. He and his artist wife Susan, live in Bucks County.
We are delighted to be welcoming outside visitors who are fully vaccinated. Please Note: All visitors should complete the COVID-19 Questionnaire Form on this website, https://pennswood.org/visitor-information/
