Students in Bucks County Classical Art Center and Studio (CCAC) programs submitted 94 pieces to Pennswood Art Gallery’s first juried Emerging Artist Exhibit.
Students in Bucks County Classical Art Center and Studio (CCAC) programs submitted 94 pieces to Pennswood Art Gallery’s first juried Emerging Artist Exhibit. Juror Linda Gist, currently on the faculty of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, selected 28 pieces of work representing students from beginner through advanced. The selection goes from an artist’s first steps learning line variation through advanced painting. Subjects likewise show a progression from plaster casts and Bargue plates to still life, landscapes and portraits. The artists represented, including the instructors’ work, reflect the spirit of the studio: individual voices rooted in skill and close attention to the visible world.
Classical art, or classicism traces its roots to the visual art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. At its heart, classicism in art emphasizes balance. This underlying principle results in harmony of values, colors, and proportion. Subjects are recognizable. Volume and space are well defined. Artists who follow this style bring their own perceptions to their works but hold true to the fundamental principle.
At BCCAC students enter a working art studio and teaching atelier dedicated to drawing, painting, and the study of art from life. Founded by artist John Murdoch, the studio brings together artists, students, and teachers who share a commitment to observation, craftsmanship, and the continuing tradition of classical art. It offers a place where artists of all levels can grow through direct practice and serious study. From this firm foundation, they are free to explore the journey on which their creativity takes them.

Pennswood Art Gallery exhibits the work of contemporary artists and artisans working in a wide variety of styles and mediums. The gallery brings high quality original work to residents of Bucks County and its surroundings. For more than forty years, it has exhibited the work of nationally famous and regionally prominent artists. Located in Pennswood Village, Newtown, PA, the non-profit gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
