VISUAL MYSTERY, a solo exhibition of Chuck Fischer’s work presents three distinct series (Zen, Sundry Circles, and Tableaux Relief) created in the last two years in Fischer’s New Hope, PA studio.
Chuck’s work breaks the plane of two-dimensional painting and is assembled from wood, aluminum, and copper. Once assembled, he finishes the work with colored gesso and modeling paste to bring the surface of the work into conversation with its maze-like depth. In some pieces an added layer of trompe l’oeil fabric is hand-painted, hiding sections of the work which adds to their visual mystery and harmony.
His work is in numerous corporate and private collections and was recently featured in the fine art magazines, Artists Magazine, and Woven Tale Press. Earlier in his career, Fischer created 9 pop-up books including Great American Houses and Gardens (Rizzoli/Universe) and Christmas in New York (Little, Brown & Co.). His designs are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum and Museum of American History, and in the Artist Book section of the Library of Congress.
