Pennswood Director of Health Services Recognized by The American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA)
Charles Whitlock, LCSW, NHA of Pennswood Village is the 2017 recipient of the ACHCA Education Award.
May 15, 2017. Newtown, PA – Charles Whitlock, Director of Health Services for Pennswood Village, a local retirement community, received recognition from the American College of Health Care Administrators for his exceptional contributions and achievements in long-term health care education. He was presented with the 2017 Education Award during the ACHCA’s Annual Convocation and Exposition.
About the Award
The award is intended to “[recognize] an individual for educational programs that, because of their content, innovative approach, or other special components, have made an outstanding contribution to professional education in long-term care,” according to a ACHCA press release.
The ACHCA says, “Mr. Whitlock’s unique educational programs increase staff knowledge and sensitivity in managing difficult situations in resident care. He has presented programs locally and nationally, educating thousands of health care professionals and seniors.”
Whitlock was nominated for the award by two other staff members at Pennswood Village.
About Charles Whitlock
Whitlock has been a senior advocate and social worker with the senior population since 1997. He is a Veterans Affairs Accredited Claims Agent, and a VA benefits educator, as well as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP).
In the past two years, Whitlock has become a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT), and has trained 92 Pennswood staff members, 85 of whom are now Certified Dementia Practitioners.
The ACHCA states, “In addition to resident benefits, the program empowers staff and enhances their self-confidence. We are pleased to present this award to Mr. Whitlock for his outstanding contributions to post–acute care education.”
Last year, Whitlock was also recognized and awarded by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners with the Distinguished Educator of the Year Certificate for his work in dementia and Alzheimer’s education.
Whitlock has proven time and again to be an invaluable asset to the Pennswood Village community. He currently lives in Philadelphia with his wife and two daughters.
