Life at Pennswood Village is about more than filling your calendar—it’s about creating a lifestyle that reflects your interests, passions, and goals. Whether you enjoy lifelong learning, staying active, volunteering, expressing your creativity, exploring the outdoors, or simply spending time with friends, you’ll find endless opportunities to make each day your own.
Inspired by Quaker values of respect, integrity, simplicity, and community, Pennswood is a welcoming place where residents continue to grow, build meaningful relationships, and live life on their own terms.
Pennswood Village, embraces diversity and inclusiveness and believes these qualities strengthen and enrich us all. In our role as part of the greater human community we are called to respect and recognize equally the dignity and worth of all persons. Further, we believe no one individual has greater value than another. It is through this belief that we find unity, peace, and fulfillment in our service to one another.
At Pennswood, residents don’t simply participate in community life—they help create it.
Through resident-led committees, clubs, volunteer initiatives, educational programs, and the Pennswood Village Residents’ Association (PVRA), residents play an active role in shaping the community. The PVRA represents resident interests, encourages open communication, and works in conjunction with Pennswood leadership to help shape community life. It also supports a wide variety of committees, programs, and activities that help make Pennswood the vibrant, engaging community it is today.
Whether you’re interested in leadership, welcoming new neighbors, organizing events, sharing your talents, or simply joining a committee that aligns with your interests, you’ll find countless opportunities to become involved, make meaningful contributions, and build lasting connections with your neighbors.
Another wonderful example of resident involvement is the Pennswood Village Library. Maintained by dedicated resident volunteers, the Library offers a welcoming space for residents and staff to borrow books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs, along with newspapers, donated magazines for reading within the Library, and reading-assistance devices for those with limited vision. Residents are encouraged to donate books, recommend new titles for the collection, and participate in the Library’s popular semiannual book sale.
Resident-led living isn’t just a philosophy at Pennswood—it’s part of what makes our community truly unique.

Dining is about more than enjoying a delicious meal—it’s an opportunity to connect with friends, celebrate special occasions, and create new memories.
Pennswood offers four unique restaurants for residents and their guests, each providing its own distinctive atmosphere and dining experience. Whether you’re meeting neighbors for breakfast, enjoying lunch after a lecture, gathering for dinner with family, or attending one of our special culinary events, you’ll find welcoming spaces, delicious cuisine, and flexible dining options designed to bring people together.
One of the things that makes Pennswood unique is the many ways residents stay informed, engaged, and connected with one another.
With original material from Pennswood residents, Village Voices is published 10 times a year. Residents submit their items, a team of editors selects the articles to be published, polishes them, and provides the layout.
There’s always something happening at Pennswood, and our weekly Community Bulletin helps residents stay up to date on everything taking place throughout campus. From upcoming events and educational programs to performances, dining specials, committee meetings, trips, and important community announcements, the bulletin is a valuable resource for planning the week ahead and staying connected to community life.
Moving to a new community is an exciting new chapter, and Pennswood’s Resident Sponsor Program helps make the transition easier. New residents are paired with current residents who offer a warm welcome, answer questions, introduce them to neighbors, and help them become familiar with community life.
The best way to experience the Pennswood lifestyle is to see it for yourself. Schedule a personal tour, attend an upcoming event, or speak with a member of our Marketing team to discover what makes Pennswood such a special place to call home.

Since its founding, Pennswood Village has cherished a special bond with three nearby educational institutions. The energy and creativity of their faculty and students bring our residents unique opportunities for intergenerational learning, socializing, and connection. In return, our residents generously share their wisdom, knowledge, and life experience, enriching the lives of students and the broader community. We are proud to partner with: Bucks County Community College, bringing engaging non-credit courses to Pennswood. George School, nurturing meaningful activities and relationships between both communities. Newtown Friends School, fostering intergenerational experiences that unite students, teachers, and residents.
The Pennswood Village Residents Association (PVRA) was founded in the fall of 1980 and became a registered 501(c)(3) organization in Pennsylvania in 1997.
Operating independently from the Pennswood Village Administration and Corporate Board, the PVRA is guided by formal Bylaws and Standing Rules.
With over 120 resident-led committees and activities, the PVRA fosters a vibrant and engaged community. Six key advisory committees—Art, Culinary, Financial Review, Health Care, House, Landscape, and Safety—bring together residents and staff to collaborate on improving village life. Additionally, residents generously donate to their own Activities Fund, housed within the Pennswood Village Foundation, which finances community activities led by the PVRA. A key reason for the community’s lively atmosphere is the active participation of residents in so many of the events and activities offered.

The Meadow
Although it appears to be a serene and natural landscape, the meadow is a meticulously designed and expertly engineered stormwater management system. Swales, wetlands, and meadows, planted with carefully selected native grasses, shrubs, and trees, work together to slow runoff, filter pollutants, and recharge the groundwater. Unlike conventional systems that simply control the flow of excess water, this approach often prevents outflow entirely, returning stormwater to the aquifer and supporting the surrounding ecosystem.
This innovative design has earned prestigious recognition, including:
Pennsylvania/Delaware ASLA President’s Award for Exceptional Design (2004),
Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence (2003),
American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence (2003), and the
New Jersey ASLA Honor Award for Design (2002)
The meadow not only serves a practical environmental purpose but also provides a place of natural beauty and tranquility for the community.
Culinary
At Pennswood, our commitment to sustainability extends from the dining room to the garden. We partner with a diverse range of vendors to ensure that only the finest ingredients make their way to our residents’ plates. Whether it’s fresh fin fish, premium sustainable seafood, or top-quality meats from local suppliers, we take pride in serving the best and upholding Pennswood’s high culinary standards.
But what truly sets us apart is our connection to the Community’s green-thumbed residents. Many of the herbs and produce we feature in our daily menus are grown by residents. Incorporating homegrown ingredients adds an unparalleled freshness and sense of pride to our dishes.
For us, this is what true “farm-to-table” dining means—sustainable, locally sourced, and rooted in community. It’s about more than just the food on the plate; it’s about creating a meaningful bond between our residents and the land that nourishes them.
For all those who desire to live, work, serve and participate with us, we actively strive to:
• Be Free of myths and stereotypes;
• Foster an appreciation of individuality;
• Adopt and apply policies and practices that uphold the rights, dignity, and equality of all persons without regard to race, culture, religious and philosophical belief, ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
• Ensure that all internal and external interaction will be carried out in a way expressive of these principles.
Pennswood’ s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness is not an end in itself. Rather, its pursuit will more meaningfully bind together all constituents, enhance the potential for achieving Pennswood’ s mission, and bring unparalleled vitality and enlightenment to the organization.
Themed parties, game nights, movie screenings, art exhibits and group outings are happening all the time!
Whether you prefer a quiet afternoon in the library, a lively evening in the game room, or an adventurous day trip, our retirement activities are designed to enrich your life and foster a strong sense of community. Join us and discover a retirement lifestyle full of vitality, connection, and joy.
At Pennswood Village, we take great pride in the meals we prepare for our residents, and we’re thrilled to extend that same care to the clients of Woodside Meals on Wheels through our partnership.
Every meal is crafted from scratch, using techniques that keep our dishes fresh and flavorful, while also featuring locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. This not only adds creativity to our menu but also helps support our community’s farmers and organic growers.
